My story begins as a child being raised in a small town of Kansas, riding my training-wheeled bicycle and imagining with wonder about what lay just beyond the horizon. I knew there was a grand and magnificent world out there which I intended to discover.
As I neared entering my teenage years I started learning guitar, and would imagine myself traveling to remote villages around the world, not knowing how to speak the same language as the people there, but if I could play music, I thought, we could effectively and happily communicate.
When I started high school my dream was to eventually play basketball in the NBA. By the end of high school my interests and attention had changed towards playing music and solving humanitarian problems. I had started learning the facts and statistics of global poverty and couldn't understand why it is we live in a world where some have so much; while so many lack even the very necessities to be alive. I wanted to devote my life's work towards having some kind of impact on creating a world where this was not the case.
Have you ever made a big change in your life without exactly knowing why, but you knew you needed to do it? In 2012 I flew to Los Angeles, California from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The extent of my plan was to land in Los Angeles, walk the streets to connect with people and meet needs. This adventure would last nearly 3 months as I traveled northward along the west coast all the way through Oregon. Because of the countless people I met along this journey, I learned about the power of relationship and living in the present moment to carry us towards our highest dreams based in compassion and service towards others.
2015, 2016, 2018
I returned to the Oregon Coast and walked at least 400 miles each year during the summer months of 2015, 2016 and 2018.
